Vision

Numerous global threats, such as wars, cultural and political unrest, climate change, mass migration, and pandemics, seem to elude the effective responses of both governments and standardized healthcare. The emerging movement of the Corps of Depth Healers, on the other hand, suggests an innovative solution for our nation: fostering emotionally restorative relationships. Emotionally restorative relationships are those in which people feel seen and heard and that get at the roots of their problems. These relationships are essential in our view to address the emotionally impoverished relationships that underlie and inform many of our current problems.

There are many reasons for this impoverishment, from financial stress to dependence on technology to the quick fix/instant results world we are growing to expect, but at their core lies the inability of our society to provide the substantive and enduring connections that lead to a more caring and supportive collective. Thus, the Corps of Depth Healers constitutes a coalition of like-minded healers and organizations committed to establishing emotionally restorative relationships as the norm in our democratic republic, a fundamental requirement for its sustainability.

Mission

In accordance with its vision, the Corps of Depth Healers represents a consortium of trained service providers whose aim is to provide affordable and accessible “emotionally restorative relationships” throughout the U.S. Again, by emotionally restorative relationships, we mean relationships where people feel heard and seen, and that get at the roots of their problems. We also mean “healers” who are skilled in working with implicit as well as explicit psychosocial challenges. These service providers include but are not limited to psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, physicians, nurses, counselors, mentors, life-coaches, educators, clergy, and other compassionate individuals who have undergone an organized course of study in healing communication.

Additionally, these service providers are willing to dedicate a portion of their relational care to underserved communities or individuals at little or no cost. Included in these relational offerings are in-depth, longer-term psychotherapy, intensive mentoring and school counseling, person-centered medical care, holistic organizational consulting, and humanistic conflict mediation that stress humane and civil dialogue between people holding contrasting cultural or political views.

Finally, the Corps hosts both a YouTube channel and a website. The YouTube channel showcases video examples of depth healers describing and applying their expertise to address a diverse array of social crises. These issues encompass cultural and political divisions, gun violence, religious conflicts, the COVID-19 pandemic, Zionism, racism, and authoritarianism.

The channel also addresses the crises in healthcare, organizational functioning, the ecosystem, and numerous other topics. The Corps website is a publicly accessible meeting ground where like-minded relational healers post summaries of their offerings, links to their websites and media, updates on current and future offerings, and ideas about the present and future needs of the Corps.
